Why you need a reference thermometer

Regular thermometers can drift over time, so their accuracy needs to be checked periodically. A reference (or master) thermometer is the tool used to do that job. Paired with a stable temperature source like a dry-well comparator, it gives you a trusted reading you can compare against the thermometer you're testing — so you know exactly how far off it is, and whether it's still within tolerance.
